Hi Guys.

I thought I'd whack a thread up (thanks for the tip Bear) for people to air their idea's and opinions on things they'd like in a tournament club.  Keeping in mind the club will be run as a sporting club (committee of volunteers and not for profit) and that it is not going to be a full tournament scene only.  We'd like to keep it as open and friendly as possible for new people that might possibly have felt intimidated in the past by fast boats and percieved "gun" anglers only.

We have had a small meeting to get the ball rolling and have a few people already putting hands up for committee positions and the likes, but we'd love more feedback.

I have questions that I'd love some feedback on.

1)  What are your thoughts on a small annual membership payment as per all other sports?  Say $30 or so per annum.  Keep in mind it is a non-profit organization and all money goes back into the club (paying insurance, expansion of club assets, etc)

2) Two day events with random pairings and shared weight to help introduce new anglers to the sport.  Your opinions?

3) Two species weekend events...say Skippy jigging day one, Bream day two.  Your opinions?

4) Targetting Western Yellowfin Bream, Black Bream and Pikey Bream in regions north of Perth (Kalbarri, Greenough, Shark Bay, etc).  Your opinions?

1) $30 is a couple of lures, more than reasonable if I am going to get some entertainment out of social comps.

2) Always liked the random draws as a non-boater, got to check out alot of boats and different angler styles.

3) That sounds pretty cool. Love bending the rod for a bit of skippy action.

4) I like the sound of it, dont know about my finacial side of it at the moment ;)

1) Annual memb is only fair. A pack of jigs, stickers or something small from a willing sponsor to go with your membership would work well for both parties.

2) All for introducing new anglers, remembering a lot of new people started to fish the classics because of the team style, maybe it's an option to look at mixing up the pairing system. Have half the events random and half team.

3) Wish this style was around earlier, Skippy jigging events with regulations on line class etc would be a wicked challenge.

4) Love the idea of getting back into group trips up North.

Great to see such a quick and positive response.

We are definately looking at a mix of team and random events throughout each year in order to keep as many anglers happy as possible.

I'm stoked to see so many guys keen on skippy jigging and the likes.  I know there are quite a few people who are right into it so I'm sure it will be a success.  New species are always so much fun.

The northern trips is an old idea but I think a great one.  There are a heap of guys up the coast of WA doing this sort of fishing and we'd love to get them involved.

Just thought I'd also say that being a sporting club, there will be AGM's and the likes where ALL members can vote on the committee and other general idea's that the club has so that you will have a say on the direction of the club.

I also wanted to say a massive thanks to the guys from www.breammaster.com and the former WABT for their support of this new club.  Without doubt their support and knowledge will be a positive to this going forward.

If your going to ban gulp, then I would say ban all SP that have scents/salt impregnantion and scents themselves :D

I hear ya Phil.

Shane IMO there is a significant difference between a scent and a "lure" that is made of biodegradable food.  Let's not start a discussion on pro's and con's of gulp in this particular thread, but I can say that there is a strong possibility that we may very well run Gulp Free social days (and I'd say there will be a few other products disallowed aswell).  There are some big positives to having such days in that it will teach new anglers how to fish plastics properly, ie not able to throw in a 1cm cube of product on a jig and catching fish.  The angling skill benefits will be huge IMO.

Sounds like a good idea Dave...Will add a bit of fun and also force (not sure if that is the best word) anglers to fish techniques they usually wouldn't....Could be highly beneficial to confidence and skill levels.

We can leave the Gulp "discussion" for the bar ;) A drink per point of arguement :D

I think some lure restricted type comp would be cool, maybe a we can get a sponsored social comp and can only fish with those lures. I can see it now, not only a livewell check but also a tackle check :D

How about a tight arse comp? cant fish with a combo worth more than $50. That would be hilarious, I dont know if I could handle it :D Or a handline comp.

All fun sounding ideas for sure.  My only concern with banning gulp is that people who are only confident fishing it may not want to join in.  That means our social events dont become social for the new people who are learning.  It was different when we were learning as we didnt have it.  Thats my only concern.  We would be better having plastics only days, vibes days and hardbody days seperate.

You guys have some great ideas but i like the sound of a comp with compulsary $15 combos (you know, comes in pink line on yellow reel on green rod with wire bail arm) . Everyone has to use the same plastic. NOW THATS A COMP.   Everyone is equal and i just bet we would still weigh in good bags. And as for the gulp in other comps..if you can eat a whole 6inch worm in front of the crowd (no bread James) then you will be allowed to use them in that days comp .
