Guys

What are the best lures for skippy relating to HB or SP types and do you need to use a bearly bomb to attract them fast and hold them around to jig for them??????????????????? Any help would be great and welcomed.

Hi Mate.

Mitch, James and I have been getting into them a bit lately with a variety of lures.  Zoom Tiny Flukes go off (bassminnows work aswell), the Maria Little Bit metals work, and Snapbacks would be my choices of lure.  They aren't super picky but we've had more success on those lures than others.

I've personally never bothered with Berley but I'm sure in places it will be highly beneficial.

Just jig them on a 1/8th jighead (bullet, round or minnow) quite agressively with pauses.  Quite often I get hookups while I'm ripping the lure back to the surface...they love some fast agressive movements at times with pauses.  A lot of places we get them have juvie sambo's too which make for great fun.

I've had good success with  the zoom flukes( and other 3" jerks) on 1/16- 1/18 darter style n#2 heads. Cast up current and let the plastic sink ,a couple of short sharp rips, pause and repeat until the plastic is back to you. By casting up current your pushing the plastic down with the water flow to where the skippy are instead of  the water flow keeping your plastic up in the water column( which is what will happpen if you cast with the current).

Some good skippy fishing in the river too- try Freo traffic bridges, Blackwall, Freshwater Bay. Just remember to fish structure( pylons, boats, rock walls)

Yeah all that advice sounds good..

Went out the other day with Scotter around the North Mole and got 12 but quality size was lacking apart from a couple. Can't go past the Zoom Tiny Flukes with a 1/16th size 2 or 4 Jiggy Jigs round head (if tide is strong heavier is fine). Really don't have to adapt much of you're bream gear and with technique as the others have said, fast and jerky with pauses and they'll smash it..fish right to boat as I've had big skips and sambos hit it right on the surface. 4-6lb leader will suffice but they do go pretty hard into the reef so lock up that drag ;-)

Berley is going to bring them in, but really I don't think there's any point if you're going to use lures. I've never needed it and they hang around the structure youre fishing regardless.

Have fun! Hopefully we can get some photos posted soon..

Guys

Thanks for the information flow, what have been the best colours when it comes to the zoom tiny flukes light or dark colours?

I've only really fished lighter colours- had no need to change

Albino, baby bass, baitfish.

I use atomic jerks in pearl white/ light blue when I want something "chunkier"

For the Skippy Albino, Green Albino, Baitfish and Smokin Shad would be my choices.

For bream the Arkansas Shiner is my favourite.

Will be getting a heap more in soon.
