Hi Guys

Ive been talking to a few people who have been around tournaments for a while running ideas around the place for a couple of new comps that we could do to replace some of the lost 2 day events.

Im of the opinion that alot of people miss the two day events, not only so they dont get to dominate the comp if they are a skilled angler, but alot of guys just miss getting away with friends and catching up.

So to fill this void Im planning on a non for profit club to be started to organise these comps.  The idea is to keep things social.  When ego's and commercial stuff happen im sure it takes away some of the fun.   Prize money was sure nice to fish for but in the context of making these events available, its not going to happen straight away.  Maybe later when we are running strong but not initially.  Hopefully there might be a couple of sponsors willing to provide some tackle to make things a little nicer for those who do well.

My idea is

Arrive at the chosen location, fish for two days in allocated time slots, weigh in and get back home at a decent hour.  First session will be 10am til 4pm or something similar to allow people to drive down if they cant friday.  Should everyone be there then there is no reason why we cant start early.  Sunday is early start and slightly less time fishing to get everyone home at a decent hour.

I would like to get the electric guys involved too, possibly giving them an hours head start over the power boats.  Also dropping the bag to two fish to weigh in would see them alot more equal, be able to fish in comps again and also possibly beat power boats.  Same basic rules apply, i dont think we need to go into them in detail.  I know there has been and probably continues to be issues with dropping in etc.  My stance here is that if it continually happens then you wont be invited back.  Its all about honesty and being there for the experience of fishing not trying to hinder other people from having a good time.

I have made a few enquiries as to insurance and the like, it all depends on how much of a response there is and how people like the sounds of things.  Of course if it goes big, insurance is a must and therefore it will require a seasonal nomination fee for everyone before they fish etc.

As far as prizes go, im not going to know until people jump on board.  I had thought of trophies that get your name on it and maybe a prize pack of sorts.  I think we all know bream fishing in WA isnt going to be at the stage where you can live off it anytime soon so dont expect huge amounts of prize money if it ever gets to that stage.

What I will add is that times and seasons for the events will be researched a bit and if its a long weekend, we can maybe do an extended event.  Things like tides can be planned for to accommodate flats fishing, moons, seasons like blackwood in december or november or even january, walpole around the same time.  Perth in august or july, mandurah in april albany when it fires etc.  Or if we want can organise a real tough one when its not in season but i dont see the point of it.  Maybe we could look at murchison river for something different.  Maybe a skippy jigging comp.  Mystery fish can be included.  What we need is a good amount of feedback to keep the choices up to the anglers to make the events unique.  Its not designed to tread on anyones toes, we will plan the events around ABT and the classics etc.  I just want to give people the opportunity to do it like we used to and have a heap of fun along the way.

So yeah basically a socially orientated series, egos and politics not welcome, enjoy yourself and the company you will be in.  Catch two fish a day, give the leccy boats a go, and be relaxed about the whole thing.

I would also love to get a group of ten or so boats together for some trial weekends to see just how it functions, just like a mates getaway.

Well Yatesy as you know I am keener than mustard to get this thing going and as such am a definate in terms of sponsorship.

The benefits and viability of this idea is easily shown by WSBB (Western Sydney Bream and Bass) Club and their tournaments (which we are also becoming a sponsor of).

Lets get on board this guys and Brad if you need any help don't hesitate to ask mate.

Man the pal would be good, its a long way but if it was properly organised then yes its possible, for a small fleet.

We fished it the other week and it wasnt spectacular but guess who nailed biggest fish

And guess what he nailed it on...hahaha

The Pal would be good...you'd wanna run it when the water is a lot higher than it is now.  I'm thinking October/November would be awesome.

Brad,

As mentioned a little earlier on "I am In". I have been doing a little canvasing on the QT and a number of the guys are very keen on the concept.

I have been dropping a few emails out there to some of the big companies, in regard to donations of prize packs (or gifts as I have called them as we will be social club) and I dont want other organisations thinking we are putting together a rogue tour and so far response has been good. I have no doubt we can rustle up some decent things to reward anglers with. Grannys are in as a sponser and along with maybe some small cash incentives, we could supply the Fishermans pack each time, couple of Muffins and some Cookies to stop the tummy rumbling on the day. Some of the anglers I have chatted to said they would be more than happy to chuck in say $20.00 into the hat at the start of the event, for a winner takes all concept. When things are under way and if we do get fairly large fields we may have to develop a letter of idemnity, that each angler states they are fishing a social comp and do so at their own risk, this goes towards taking the onus off the organisers.Getting a bit a ahead of myself here.

I am the same as Macca would be more than happy to donate my services, to help get this off the gound and am avaialble to participate in the (Pilot Study) first comp.

I like the idea of getting the Leccy Guys back in, as there are few out there that have only one boat and thats the one they set up especially for the Leccy Comps, I am certain they would be eager to get back in amongst it.

The social aspect of the whole thing really appeals to me as it may encourage more guys to bring their wives and families, girlfriends etc. along (me especially).

Anyway keep the ball rolling and lets see where it stops.

Cheers Yardi

P.S. Dave still feel bad about not getting you on the fish last Sunday, sorry dude

It's great to see this much support guys.  If it all goes through, which at this stage I'm going to assume it will given the encouraging support, then I think it will be an awesome development for WA sports fishing.

Check out  www.wsbb.com.au/

These guys have been running a very similar concept for a few years and you can see how successful it has become just by browsing the site and viewing past results.  This is basically what Yatesy's overall plan was I believe.  Being an incorporated club will mean there will need to be a club comittee and meetings etc etc.  What it does however mean is that profit is not a determining issue surrounding the events and as such I believe they will remain sustainable and possibly have a better chance at growth.

Oh and Yardi...not another word on the topic.  Not your fault at all and I'm over it...haha stupid fishing.

Yatesy - cant make it on the 15th (MIL b'day) but as you know put my name down.

in fact if there if we require a committee to ge the club started then i'll nominate myself to be a member.  also i'll offer my place to hold meetings etc, i'm sure yardi could suggest some catering ideas.... :-) could i sugest ervery 2nd month for meetings, the once a month committee's i've sat on have become fairly taxing after a while.

i'd say why wait till the 15th to take names, can we set up a thread or section on the jiggy jigs site Dave? could start getting expressions of intrest straight away....

This is sort of an expressions of interest thread right here.

I'm looking into sorting website options as we speak and will try to get something up and running soon.

Yatesy hurry up and get up to Perth so we can go over some things...lol (no sister joke...serious)

Guys i have also been putting some thought into some other styles of light tackle fishing that we can do with our bream style boats as well.

How do people feel about skippy jigging- Geo bay, c%^kburn, warnbro etc.  And possible running the skippy jigging as a split weekender with a squidding comp so we all leave with some tasty rewards for fishing the weekend.

sounds good yatsey - also would be great to include the freshwater stuff again .....

what about names for the club? suggestions below

WLTC - western light tackle club

WBAC - western bream anglers club

WTAA - western tournament anglers association

WLC - western lure chuckers

TNG - the no gulpers :-)    (see thinking of you dave)

i reckon the sooner we sort out, name constitution committee membership details etc, and set a date for the first event the better. i'd imagine only a few boats would front for the first few trips but it would build from there.
