Word on the street is that young gun Deacon Plant and proven tournament winner, Mitch Yellin took out one Bream Electric round each over the weekend.  Deacon on Saturday and Mitch on Sunday with a stonking 1.4kg bream!

Well done lads...how'd ya fish and how was the fishing in general?

Thanks Dave,

Here is a quick report of my weekend.

Day one,

The start see’s more people that I had hoped heading up river so I pull up early a long way from my spot and have a few cast and look behind to see all but one boat has pulled in behind me (happy days haha) so I fly off again hopeing to get to the rock wall I want to first. Finally make it to my first real spot and first cast with a pumpkinseed Eyeball tail wack and first legal bream is in the bag and then nothing for the rest of the 200m  stretch any way no matter as a bay I like is coming up tho 4 boats have been over it working the shallows ( bad mistake guys) I like the deeper edge over the drop off tho so its all good with in 4 casts with the Squidgy critter in bloodworm I had the second keeper and my bag so I was a happy lad. About a dozen undersize fish followed and I end up at the island for nothing so back to the flat and pull 2 upgrades this time on 2” Snapback grubs in Muskadine, my leccy was starting to get a bit slow so I headed back to the start on the ski aria (takes 45 minuets) and work a bank get one upgrade first cast (Bloodworm critter) then change to a pumpkinseed snappy grub and BAM I knew this was the kicker fish I needed so I am taking it ezy when 2 canoeists come flying down river over the top of my line!!  Any way all was good and I landed a nice 37cm kicker fish after that my leccy went flat and I sat on the back for 2 hrs haha.

All I used all day was a Egrell S1 6’6” rod with a Shimano Sustain 1000 reel with 2lb mono all the way down to a light 1/32oz jig head with ether a 3” Eyeball tail, 2” Snapback grub or a 50mm Squidgy critter. My bag was 1.2 Kgs

Day 2

Was a shocker!!

Saying close to the start as I knew my battery hadn’t charged properly,

I got my first fish after about 20mins of fishing then nothing the leccy died at 9;00 am and dad and I sat around for 1.5hrs until we got another battery  ( Thanks to Steve for that) we headed backup to the start to fish some rocks near there and dad hooks an mulloway that ties up half an hour ( It was BIG I lost it at the side of the boat tho est around 115-120cms) onley got one more just size fish after that.

I used the same gear as the day before but just no my day.

Bag was around 615gms I think

Cheers Dave,

Day 1

Headed up river to find some deep rocks or banks to fish. Got to the rocky bank of the island as it looked perfect, and landed my bag in a couple of minutes using a gold Oargee with Owner Stinger trebles supplied by JiggyJigs.com. Went another 20mins up river and then went for the long trip down past the bridge near the mouth, ended up pulling plenty of fish but just couldn’t find the size. Caught on Snappy grubs, Oargee, River2Sea 60sheds, Ecogear padtues, and fishing JiggyJigs.com 1/16 jigheads.

Day 2

Knew people were catching bags on the flats but figured they were small fish (how I was wrong!), so I headed back up river to concentrate on the deep rocks and holes. Soon pulled into the first boulder and got smoked on an Ecogear mini tank, fished it a little more then opened up the 135lb donks and cruised up to the island, fishing a couple of spots on the way with nothing but a rat taking any interest. Fished the island and boulders pretty hard as I knew big fish would be holding deep and threw a snappy grub in the pumpkinseed. Watching how the water flowed around the rock with the tide, I fished the lure so it drifted past the rocks and hooked up to a train that I managed to get up to the surface and watched with net in hand as the hook pulled and off he swam…not happy considering the size of it. After working the area for a while with no further interest and trying every lure in my box, I headed back down to the see how the flats were fishing as was desperatley needing a bag. I was lucky enough to have a nice stretch to myself and first cast with a green cut down worm type of plastic (check them out at JiggyJigs) on a 1/32 JiggyJigs jighead, I watched a pony come up and smash the plastic in crystal clear water, and thankfully this time landed it with no trouble. Love watching them run in such shallow water! Lost a few others straight after then it went quiet, fished heaps of different plastics but didn’t land another bream the rest of the day.
