cheers dave, i'll have a crack at a semi thorough report.....
The day started out with a very ramdom draw after which Yardi and i seamed destined to spend some time together. We've drawn each other a few times now and always have a great time on the water, yacking away laughing at the goings on. The Moore always seams to bring out a few "interesting" individuals to keep the day entertaining. I ran through my plan for the day and yardi was bascialy thinking the same thing, so we shot off from the start to work the bank driectly opposite the ramp. we both managed our first fish by 8:15 or there abouts not huge but the the first one in a comp is always nice. The easterly was fairly strong at that stage and despite a fairly good chop slaming the bank stirring up a heap of food, we were struggling to get any hits up tight to the reeds. So we dropped off the bank and started covering some of the deeper water. Yardi boated his second, and then things went a bit quiet. I decided to push up the river a bit to search for some more activity.
Heaps of small fish came to the boat over the next few hours, before i managed to boat my second legal fish just a bit before mid day. with both of our bags full the search for up grades began. i think i went through every plastic in my bag looking for the silver bullet, about then i hooked up to a train of a fish which looked the right size and colour to be the kicker i was after, a couple of miutes later i boated a 1.5kg mullet ............ frustrating!!
Over the next couple of hours i dropped or missed a heap of fish which in hind sight i put down to fishing "big" trying for the up grade. With about 15min to go i said to Yardi that i was just about ready for a cleansing bevi on the bank and with a bit of proding from steve, we set up for one last drift. i had a quick think trying to come up with a placcy that i had not used and tied on a green hawg, coverd it in dizzy scent and pinged it out, first lift and i was on to a nice upgrade, once landed and weighed i checked the watch and had 7min left to make our way back to the ramp.
with around about 1.1kg i did not think i had enough weight to threaten, as i had heard rumors of some 40cm+ fish being landed. In the end i was happy to stick it for second place.
so what worked on the day? first off it was Jiggy jigs 1/16th round and bullet head size 2's teamed with eyball tails, hawgs, zoom tiny flukes & the ever effective gulp in sand worms and sand eales.
All in all a great day fishing with a group of fellas i'm happy to call mates and a top way to round off the last comp for WABT.
Macca.
oh and the shirts came up great, glad you like 'em
