I am new to fishing here in Perth, the last time I fished was in South Africa about 1960 in Cape Town harbour, so went out and bought 2 combos one for myself and one for my better half this Christmas.
Basically we were told a good place to start was the Swan River between Guild ford and Bassendean, the place we bought the combo's the staff advised us on what hooks, sinkers, swivels and leaderline to purchase - they recommended the Flurocarbon - which we bought. We took a drive all the way down North Road and stopped and spoke other people fishing in the places all the way down to Sandy Beach.
We decided that Sandy Beach was a good place to try and set up just down from where everybody launched their canoes, dropped in a line using river prawns and also prawns we had in the freezer that we normal cook up for tea, there were heaps of bites and we caught a few black Bream, but they were all under 25cms so had to return them as one does, we have been back there about several times and the same result except we also got a few small Tarwhine.
I would cast about a quarter way across the river, so am seeking advise as to whether we are doing something wrong, or is it just a matter of being patient before we will hook a nice size Bream to eat? Is there specific times that is best to fish when they are in feeding mode?
Another question is IF we catch an edible size Bream, are we allowed to clean it and dispose of fish guts into river like berley?
Cheers
