Hi guys I am planning on buying a new combo as you all probably know. I want to buy a stradic because all I have heard are good reports. I am just curious what size would you recommend? I will mainy be targetting bream and smaller species so 1000 seems ideal but I might want to hit the deep blue for some bigger fish not to big obviously but maybe metro salmon when they are on. I will be matching this with a llight rod not sure yet maybe t-curve XL for vibes and other hbs hearing than stiff rods are the go for placcies so it is a resonably soft rod.

All help is greatly appreciated

cheers lee

From what I hear a locked stradic 1000 drag is enough to push most 2-4 kilo rods beyond their limit and probably snap the 4-6 lb line you'll most likely be using on it.

I haven't looked at a Stradic but what what I would base it on would be which balances my intended rod better.

The only other thing I might consider would be line capacity, if your fishing light for some larger salmon (I don't know what size you call a 'metro' salmon), you might be forced to worry about how much line you can give a running fish and risk being repeatedly spooled.  I've been spooled by salmon fishing 8-10lb on locked up 2000 size Shimano's in open water on a few occasions.  Luckily I use mono and cheap metal slices for the purpose so it's still good fun.  In fact now I think of it, I might give a few people a call and see if anyone is expecting any salmon in close this weekend.

I use a 1500 Size Daiwa for breamin and my crazy salmon fun on 4 and 6lb.  My line will ping more often than not before my reel runs out of drag pressure so you should be fine there.  As for line capacity, shore based that goes to open water you may be in trouble, from a boat is not an issue and around reef holes you should be ok too.

Do they make a 2000 sized Stradic?  If so that may be the go.
How much are you looking at paying?  I may be able to help out if you want.  Just sling me an email.

I know a few guys on the WA circuit that have changed from 1000 to 2500 sized reels as they believed the 1000 size was more prone to knots on the spools. Im kind of believeing as well that the smaller spools wont cast as far.

Drag rating is fine with the 1000 size so anything up may be an overkill.

Any reason why you arent looking at daiwa? They  have a few braid friendly features that shimano dont have and if you look around you can get a probably get a 1500 capricorn that weighs less than a 2500 stradic for around 30 bucks less. That means you have 30 bucks extra for braid. Iv used my capricorn on mackeral and northern trevally in exmouth and you saw the other night it still has the guts to tame a nice bream. both the 1500 capricorn and 2500 shimano are very similar in weight.  Another reel to look at is the Team Daiwa Tierra. It looks spanky and has identical features to a capricorn and weighs less if you get the 1500 size. Same price as a stradic 1000. The only thing the shimanos have going in my books are the reel profile in the 1000 size and the 10 yr warranty.

Also give dave an email for sure. This will open your eyes a little more believe me.

Ok This hurts to say this but I dont know how to email you Dave.[EMO]bigsmile.gif[/EMO]

About the Daiwa Shimano debate I couldn't care what I got I was thinking along the lines of if the shimano 1000fh is good enough for chris wright in the afc it should be more than good enough for me. Good thing is I will be matching it with a sic stick pro 7' 2-4kg (99% sure)so that should be good for on salmon ect. I didn't realise you were using a cappy brad I thought you were using pen gear. Anyway I dont care what brand I use as long at is suits the rod.

well I have got the sic stick pro and I am almost certain to get a stradic 2500fh unless something else comes up. Thanks for all the advise that has been provided from everyone. If you have anything else to ad please do so because it is not a done deal yet.
